Torta Ahogada

Oh Guadalajara how you delight my taste buds. Last week I was in Mexico for work and got to try some local treats. One such delight was the torta ahogada, a drowned sandwich which is submerged in a sauce make of dried chili peppers and/or tomato-based. The sandwiches are made with birote bread, a bread …

Cookie Monster = Me

This year I made almond spritz cookies for Christmas. I’ve always wanted to use a cookie press. Up until a few years ago, we had spritz cookie ornaments that my Mom had preserved with some sort of varnish. Sadly, after over twenty years of use they started to crumble and had to be thrown away. …

The cherry on top of your present

I made these gift tags for the presents we gave our family. I can’t remember where I got the idea but I think I found it via Martha and I have a feeling it was in one of her recent magazines. I made them by drawing a snowflake onto a piece of cardboard, then using …

A Happiest New Year to you and yours

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. We’ll be sharing some things we did to prepare for the holidays with you here. To kick things off, I found this crafty idea before Thanksgiving and thought it perfect given Bourbon’s love of Christmas music. I had hoped to cut out a …

Craving Craft Time

I don’t know what it is but every year around Thanksgiving time I get a huge urge to make all things non-food related, of course in addition to food-related things. This year I picked out a few things to make so depending on how productive I am, you may see them more of them here. I …

Seriously?

But really, is it really necessary for airport security to put their sticker AROUND my luggage handle. Not only is it incredibly hard to get off the material on the handle (especially since it doesn’t peel off in one piece, rather into the 30+ puzzle pieces stamped into it) but it is likely to leave …

Bourbon’s Birthday Cake

Trying to be clever, I made a small cake for Bourbon’s birthday using four ramekins, however it still turned out to be too much cake for the two of us. The cake was a chocolate cake with vanilla bean buttercream, the best of both worlds. And as an extra special treat for Bourbon, well actually …

Rosemary Cookies

Its about time I post a rosemary recipe, and here it is Rosemary Shortbread Cookies with Tomato Jam from David Lebovitz’s Ready for Dessert. Although I enjoyed the cookies, I didn’t love the tomato jam with the cookies so I think I’ll try it on toast perhaps with some ricotta.

Pain d’Epi

We made Pain d’Epi (wheat stalk bread) after having some at Chez Panisse. We have no plans to go back to making french baguettes anymore, we like that this version lets us have more crust.

Last Day in Cali

Was pretty awesome if you ask me. We started the day at the last winery on our list, which also turned out to be our favorite of the wineries we visited during our trip. A small one that gave you the code to the gate to get in. When we arrived we were greeted by a dog, …
